Event Teams

Alchemy burn is run entirely by volunteers of event teams organized by departments listed below. Each team starts work between December and February and is active past the burn in October until November / Early December. It’s a huge commitment and we are thankful for the people who gift us their time and expertise to help run the burn.

Art Department

  • Manages onsite art projects- grant awards, resources, arrangement

  • To empower community members to achieve their artistic vision through logistical support as well as funding via the online art fundraiser.

  • Work with artists on tasks like making budgets, promoting themselves and their vision, and connecting them with the resources they need.

  • Help artists develop many of the administrative and networking skills necessary to undertake an art project of any scale.

  • Preps for, sets up, and LNT’s the Large Art Builds (LAB)

  • Teams: Art Grant, Art Curators, Center Camp, Conclave, DMV (Department of Mutant Vehicles), Large Art Builds (LABs)

  • Task Leads: Graphic Art Designer(s), Art Installation Logistics, Harvest Weekend Coordinator

City Planning

  • Plans the city, and determines where things will be

  • Communicates about the layout

  • Establishes sound and parking requirements

  • Teams: Mapmakers, Placement, Car Czars, Sound, Shuttles

  • Coordinates with the Theme Camp Liaison and Disability Services

Burner Services

  • Make the burn experience smooth, fun, and welcoming

  • Drive interactions between burners, principles, and community resources

  • Teams: Greeters, Education, Info Station, Gate Support, Helping Hands, Volunteer Coordination

Operations Department

  • Ensures smooth operations and logistics - year round!

  • Maintain inventory of org, and document usage

  • Build the city!

  • Teams: APW, Quartermaster, Lamplighters, Leave No Trace, Teardown

  • Task Leads: Purchasing, Golf Cart Logistics, All Hands Inventory Coordinator, Work Day Coordinator

Safety Department

  • Manages teams responsible for the safety of participants and property.

  • Manages relationships with local EMS, Fire, and LE officials.

  • Manages contracts with Safety Vendors (Security, Medics, Pyro)

  • Teams: Rangers, Sanctuary, Care Bears

  • Task Leads: Safety Brunch, Training Coordinator

Fire Services

  • Plans for and ensures safe and smooth burn down

  • Inspects fire art

  • Remediates unintentional fires

  • Teams: Fire Safety, FAST, Burn Down, Perimeter

Leadership Support

  • Help other leads manage the work/life balance by helping to figure out when tasks need delegation

  • Ensure leadership are able to effectively handle their tasks and are set up for success

Communications

  • Manages public messaging and sends out the Alchemist

  • Keeps community informed about Alchemy ongoings

  • Creates the pocket and survival guides.

  • Manages our online presence, as well coordinates knowledge management with all department leads.
