Ryan King

What committees do you want to work with?

Home, Events

What burns have you been to?

Alchemy, Euphoria, Serendipity, To The Moon

Why do you want to be a board member?

I would like to give back to the Burn community and help ensure that our local Georgia Burns continue to operate in perpetuity.

If elected to the board, what will your priorities be?

My priorities will be to provide whatever help I can to ensure we have a long term venue and vision for Alchemy and Euphoria and to make sure we capture the existing thought capital to help future leaders in our community.

What is your long-term vision for the future of Flashpoint Artists Initiative?

My long term vision is for us to have get back to having a stable venue for our annual events and to promote the arts in the community. I would like us to make sure we are marketing and promoting the good works that are already in place and see if there are opportunities to grow our outreach.

What would you most like to contribute as part of the FAI BOD?

I feel my organization and leadership skills can be beneficial and complement the existing skillset already in place. Hopefully I can take some of the burden off others in the Board so that they can contribute without the risk of burnout from trying to shoulder too much.

Please tell us about the experience (professional, burn world, or otherwise) that you can contribute to the FAI BOD.

For 20 years, I have managed large, global multimillion dollar projects as large as $300M+ in multiple industries and sectors on 4 continents. I have had to interface with local, state and federal gov't and communicate with all levels from C-level executives down to developers and local unions. I feel these skills will be beneficial with the role of the Board and hopefully I can help give back to the Burn community which has provided so much happiness to me.

What roles have you served in at Alchemy and/or Euphoria? In leadership positions at other burns?

I have not served in a leadership capacity at any previous Burns, only multiple volunteer shifts at every Burn I've been to (LNT, Lamplighters, Ranger & Khaki).

Please describe your leadership style and experience (in detail).

I tend to be pretty even-keeled regardless of stress or circumstances. I like to empower those under me when I'm leading and make sure they understand the goals and parameters we are working under. I find you get the most out of people when they buy in to the vision and understand the goals and constraints. I will listen to opposing viewpoints with an open mind and I tend to take in all data and make decisions rather quickly after weighing options.

Please describe a time you experienced a team conflict and the steps you took to peacefully resolve it (in detail).

I won't discuss previous work experiences but I've found that listening to both sides and actually hearing their views and understanding where they are coming from will enable a leader to more effectively provide arbitration and mediation.

Are you ready to learn how the sausage gets made?

Yes, I am and I've been a non-voting member of the Board since May.
